Stock Market Turmoil

Wildfires in central and eastern Oregon are prompting evacuations and forcing ranchers to scramble to move cattle and find feed as public range land burns. More than a million acres have burned so far. Most fires have little or no containment.

After the Dow falls by 1,000 points, the index typically is weak in the week that follows. The average then posts gains in the next month and three months.

Major equity indexes put in their worst “Fed Day” performance since December 2024, while the yield on the 30-year bond shot higher.
